David Robert Daniel, (1855-1931) was born at
Llandderfel had no quarrying links whatsoever. Receiving a sound
education at the Grammar School, Bala and the Independent
College, under the renowned radical, Michael D. Jones, he paid
not only the obligatory visit to the U.S.A. but also travelled on
mainland Europe, before being appointed assistant organiser for
Northern Wales, under the United Kingdom Temperance Movement.
Being heavily involved in T.E. Ellis's election as Liberal M.P
for Meirionydd in 1886. The following year he moved to Y Ffor,
near Pwllheli, entering local politics in 1895. He was appointed
Organiser to the N.W.Q.U. soon the following year. After serving
on Caernarfonshire County Council he joined the civil
service.
