Quarry proprietors - The Glynllifon
Dynasty
The
most important of the smaller landed families with interests in the slate
industry are the Wynne family of Glynllifon, especially Sir Thomas Wynn (1736-1807), the
first Lord Newborough. He
challenged the rights of the Crown. His son was Thomas John Wynn
(1802-1852), the second Lord Newborough, and his brother,
Spencer Bulkeley Wynn (1803-88) the third Lord Newborough,
right. Their slate interests were mainly in Dyffryn Nantlle,
Dyffryn Conwy, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Corwen.
